UN Economist – Resident Coordinator Office

About the role

The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office in San Salvador is seeking an Economist to provide substantive economic analysis and evidence‑based advice on sustainable development, economic transformation and SDG financing. The role supports the Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team and partners in shaping policies, programmes and financing strategies to accelerate progress towards the 2030 Agenda.

Key responsibilities

• Research, analyse and present economic, social and sustainable development data, including emerging trends on green transition, digital transformation and the future of work.
• Conduct policy analysis to identify challenges, opportunities and options for accelerating SDG progress, ensuring gender equality and “leave no one behind” principles.
• Support implementation of global guidelines and tools related to economic transformation and SDG financing, collaborating with the Regional Office and SDG Coordination Division.
• Provide inputs to briefing materials, policy papers and reports on macro‑economic trends, integrated SDG analysis and innovative financing approaches.
• Monitor national, regional and global economic developments and assess their implications for sustainable development at the country level.
• Analyse the role of the private sector and identify partnership, innovation and blended financing opportunities.
• Facilitate engagement with government counterparts, UN entities, IFIs, private sector, academia and civil society on economic transformation and SDG financing.
• Contribute economic and financing analysis to the Common Country Analysis, UNSDCF, joint programmes and the UN sustainable development programming cycle.
