About the role

We are looking for a Seismology Specialist to join our team in El Salvador. The role involves processing ground‑motion records, calculating key intensity parameters and supporting seismic hazard studies for the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Process acceleration records and compute peak acceleration, peak velocity, Arias intensity and response spectra.
• Characterise site effects for instrumented assets, with special focus on volcanic ash deposits in the Metropolitan Area of San Salvador.
• Maintain a permanent technical link with the national seismic network operated by the MARN and manage access to its data.
• Correlate input motion with recorded structural response to separate soil amplification from structural vulnerability.
• Provide seismic threat inputs required for micro‑zonation studies.
• Manage free‑field instrumentation, either owned or obtained through agreements, as reference data.

Required profile

• Geophysicist, geologist or civil engineer with a specialization or postgraduate degree in seismology or seismic engineering.
• At least 4 years of experience in seismic record processing or seismic hazard studies.
• Strong knowledge of the seismotectonic context of El Salvador and Central America.
• Desirable experience with MARN, Universidad Centroamericana José Simeón Cañas or similar institutions, probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, early‑warning systems and GIS.
• Willingness to relocate to El Salvador for a minimum of two years.
