Unix/Linux Administrator

About the role

The Unix/Linux Administrator reports to the IT Infrastructure Manager and is responsible for the optimal performance, stability, and security of Gildan's core operating system platforms and file‑transfer networks. This role supports global business continuity, virtualization layers, and specialized enterprise applications, and requires participation in a rotational on‑call schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Provision, configure, and maintain RedHat Linux enterprise environments, Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM), VMware, and core system hardware.
• Support and optimize critical enterprise data exchange via SFTP frameworks and HelpSystems GoAnywhere.
• Assist in administration, patching, and technical support of specialized enterprise platforms.
• Enforce network and physical security policies, manage user access controls, and maintain SOX compliance documentation.
• Test and deploy system upgrades, software patches, and environmental changes to ensure zero disruption.
• Maintain, evaluate, and test the system Disaster Recovery (DR) plan.
• Maintain up‑to‑date system documentation, operational procedures, and software license inventories.
• Provide high‑quality technical support to internal clients and resolve enhancement requests.
• Research new technologies and provide data‑driven recommendations for system enhancements.
• Communicate planned and unplanned system changes to users in a timely manner.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7–10 years of proven experience as a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator in an enterprise setting.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for both technical and business audiences.
• In‑depth knowledge of RedHat Linux, robust Bash shell scripting, and enterprise SFTP infrastructure.
• Strong administrative experience with OVM and VMware virtualization frameworks.
• Experience with HelpSystems GoAnywhere, IBM VIO, or AIX is highly advantageous.
• Background working in a regulated environment (e.g., SOX) and managing strict security protocols.
• Proven ability to collaborate cross‑functionally with Infrastructure, BI, and Development teams across international sites.
• Willingness to participate in a rotational on‑call schedule supporting a 24/7 global operation.
