Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Latin America)

About the role

Puente connects experienced Latin American backend engineers with growing US technology companies building scalable, high-performance products. This full-time, remote Senior Backend Engineer position is paid in competitive USD and requires US business hours. The role suits engineers who design robust systems, make architectural decisions and take ownership of production systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and scale backend services and APIs, owning features from architecture to production.
• Develop reliable databases and data processing workflows, and improve system performance, security and scalability.
• Maintain integrations with internal and external systems and troubleshoot production issues.
• Influence architecture and engineering decisions and deliver measurable improvements in reliability, scalability or performance within the first 90 days.

Required profile

• 7+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend language: Python, Java, Go, Node.js or C#.
• Experience designing and scaling production APIs and services, and at established tech companies or high-growth startups.
• Professional English and strong communication skills; ability to explain systems built and their technical impact.

Required skills

• Solid understanding of SQL/NoSQL databases, system design and distributed systems.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
• CI/CD, automated testing and production monitoring.
• Bonus: microservices and event-driven architecture, Kubernetes, Docker, Kafka, Redis, observability, AI/LLM integrations, technical leadership or open-source contributions.
