Senior Unix Administrator

About the role

Reporting directly to the IT Infrastructure Manager, the Unix/Linux Administrator ensures the optimal performance, stability, and security of Gildan's core operating system platforms and file‑transfer networks. This position is vital to maintaining business continuity across global operations, supporting everything from virtualization layers to specialized enterprise applications.

Key responsibilities

• Provision, configure, and maintain RedHat Linux enterprise environments, Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM), VMware, and core system hardware.
• Support and optimize critical enterprise data exchange via SFTP frameworks and HelpSystems GoAnywhere.
• Assist in administration, patching, and technical support of specialized enterprise platforms.
• Enforce network and physical security policies, administer user access controls, and update SOX compliance documentation.
• Test and deploy system upgrades, software patches, and environmental changes to guarantee zero disruption.
• Maintain, evaluate, and test the system Disaster Recovery (DR) plan.
• Maintain up‑to‑date system documentation, operational procedures, and software license inventories.
• Provide high‑quality technical support to internal clients and communicate upcoming system changes.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience as a Linux/Unix Systems Administrator in an enterprise setting.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for technical and business audiences.
• Strong knowledge of RedHat Linux, Bash scripting, and enterprise SFTP infrastructure.
• Administrative expertise with OVM and VMware virtualization platforms.
• Experience working in regulated environments (e.g., SOX) and managing strict security protocols.
• Proven ability to collaborate with Infrastructure, BI, and Development teams across international sites.
• Willingness to participate in a rotational on‑call schedule supporting 24/7 global operations.
