AI Agent Engineer (Remote)

About the role

Blacksmith Agency is building AI into every part of its work. As AI Agent Engineer, you own and ship the internal automation roadmap: production LLM and agent systems used daily by real people on the team. This is a builder role, not research, and you will not train models. It is a full-time seat and must be your only job.

The position is remote, open to Latin America and South Africa, and is advertised through Blacksmith Agency's engineering partner.

Key responsibilities

• Build agents and workflows with tool use and function calling on Anthropic and OpenAI, using a framework or plain APIs.
• Write evals that show improvements and guardrails that prevent wrong or unsafe actions.
• Integrate WordPress, Figma, Google Workspace, Slack and internal systems, including MCP servers.
• Ship internal tools that save measurable hours on delivery, sales operations and project management.

Required profile

• At least one LLM or agent system you built yourself that ran in production with real users; you must be able to explain it in detail.
• Hands-on experience with tool use, evals and failure handling, including validation of model output, retries and human approval.
• REST APIs, webhooks and cloud deployment.
• Strong spoken English, since you will discuss technical decisions on live calls with a US team.
• Full-time availability with no other freelance or contract work alongside it.

Required skills

• 2+ years building production software in Python or TypeScript / Node.js.
• LLM and agent systems in production.
