Platform Engineer I - ELS

About the role

Blackhawk Network's Operations Command Centre (OCC) is looking for a Platform Engineer with strong technical foundations and a passion for building reliable systems. This is not a traditional Platform Engineering or NOC role: you will spend time both engineering solutions and operating production platforms, maintaining the health of BHN's services while building automation, observability and AI-driven capabilities. You will also take an active part in Major Incident Management, working with engineering teams to restore services during critical incidents.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in the 24x7 on-call rotation, monitor production health with observability platforms, lead or support Major Incident bridges, perform technical triage and run post-incident reviews.
• Build automation, internal engineering tools, dashboards, alerts and health scores; improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment safety; develop auto-remediation and self-healing capabilities.
• Design alerts that reduce alert fatigue, improve visibility with metrics, logs and traces, and define SLIs and SLOs.
• Use AI-assisted development tools to build incident summarisation, root cause analysis, operational copilots and auto-remediation features.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, SRE, Infrastructure Engineering or a similar technical role.
• Strong Linux fundamentals, exposure to production support or Major Incident Management, and excellent communication skills.
• Nice to have: experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Jenkins, Splunk, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ServiceNow, Terraform, distributed systems, FinTech/payments environments, and proven use of AI tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor or Claude.
