Senior Backend Engineer, Game Server

About the role

We are looking for a senior backend engineer to own and evolve the server side of our live mobile board game. The game runs on an Elixir/Phoenix umbrella, stores player state in DynamoDB, and communicates with a Unity client via real‑time channels. You will work in a small, fully remote team, handling everything from feature development to operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and ship end‑to‑end server features such as progression, economy, social systems and alliances.
• Take on platform and DevOps tasks including CI pipelines, AWS/ECS infrastructure, Pulumi provisioning, observability and load testing.
• Extend shared infrastructure (DynamoDB schemas, caches, admin LiveViews) as new features require.
• Write comprehensive tests alongside feature code to keep the codebase shippable.
• Collaborate with Unity client engineers on wire contracts and with game designers on product behavior.
• Review teammates’ pull requests, ensuring correct concurrency handling, idiomatic Elixir and no hard‑coded game data.

Required profile

• Several years of professional experience building server‑authoritative games or high‑scale backend services.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, transactional writes and idempotent operations.
• Ability to move fluidly between feature work, infrastructure and operational tasks.
