Database Administrator (DBA) – Azure SQL

About the role

AB POS Solutions is seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage, optimise and protect its Azure SQL database infrastructure that powers payment and point‑of‑sale technology. The role focuses on performance, availability, security and reliability of the Microsoft Azure SQL environment.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and monitor Azure SQL Database environments, including CPU, I/O, storage and connections.
• Identify and resolve slow queries, blocking, deadlocks and other performance bottlenecks using Azure SQL Query Store, Query Performance Insight, Azure Monitor, Application Insights and Log Analytics.
• Optimise SQL queries, indexes, stored procedures, execution plans and database structures for high‑volume transactional workloads.
• Monitor database health, set proactive alerts, and review locks, waits, concurrency issues and long‑running queries.
• Support read‑only workloads, Read Scale‑Out, and separation of transactional and reporting workloads.
• Implement and validate backup, recovery, retention and disaster‑recovery procedures.
• Maintain security, permissions, roles and access controls.
• Document architecture, configurations, incidents and optimisation changes; participate in incident analysis and root‑cause investigations.

Required profile

• 3+ years experience as a Database Administrator, SQL Database Engineer or similar role.
• Strong background with Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL Database.
• Proven ability to tune performance, analyse execution plans and manage high‑availability environments.
