Representative, El Salvador (Population and Development)

About the role

UNFPA is seeking a Representative for El Salvador to lead a country office team in designing and implementing a population and development and sexual and reproductive health country programme. Working under a Regional Director, the post promotes the organization's mandate, integrates sexual and reproductive health and rights into the national development agenda and delivers results, including in emergency settings.

Key responsibilities

• Define the strategic direction of the country office, build institutional relationships with government, civil society, the private sector, the UN community and academia, and promote UNFPA's role in the national development agenda
• Manage international and national staff, set performance standards, and drive a resource mobilization and partnership strategy including donor relations
• Lead the country policy dialogue, represent UNFPA in the UN Country Team and the UN Humanitarian Team, and support the UN Resident Coordinator
• Apply results-based management and quality assurance, enforce financial and monitoring processes, and ensure staff safety and security

Required profile

• Advanced degree (at least a Master's) in Public Health, Medicine, Sociology, Demography, Gender, International Relations, International Development, Economics, Public Administration, Management or related fields
• 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public administration and international development, with at least 8 years in population and development, sexual and reproductive health or humanitarian work at the international level
• Knowledge of population and development and sexual and reproductive health issues, and proven ability to lead teams to high-quality results
• Experience in advocacy, policy dialogue, media and communication with partners
